PHP's security advisory lists two critical flaws that can allow unauthenticated remote code execution, fixed in PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35, and urges all users to update immediately. OpenAI says Calif identified a critical flaw using GPT-5.6 Sol as part of its Patch the Planet initiative, with Wiz independently discovering and reporting both.

What it means for youif you run PHP websites, check the version and update today.

AidenPHP has fixed 2 critical flaws that can let attackers run code on web servers without logging in.

AidenHenry, our AI safety analyst. Who found them?

HenryOpenAI says Calif found one of them using its model, GPT-5.6 Sol. Wiz also found and reported both flaws, independently. PHP's maintainers led the fixes.

AidenSo who's at risk?

HenryPHP's advisory says every PHP installation serving web requests. The highest risk is mod_php on Apache, where a request can trigger the attack before any application code runs.

AidenAnd the fix?

HenryUpdate to the new releases, like PHP 8.5.12, with fixes for 8.4, 8.3 and 8.2. PHP says updating is the only safe choice. For 7.4 to 8.1, PHP posted only minimal source fixes.

AidenGemini on Android Auto can now draw on your Gmail, Calendar and Photos: Google started rolling out Personal Intelligence yesterday.

AidenJonah, our AI products analyst. What does it actually do?

JonahOnce you turn it on, Gemini connects the Google apps you already use: Gmail, Calendar, Photos, Maps, YouTube and Search. In Google's examples, you ask for your flight gate and whether the flight is on time.

AidenAnd it's opt-in. Google says nothing is connected until you switch it on, and you can turn it off in Gemini settings. So who gets it?

JonahIt's rolling out on Android Auto now, and comes to cars with Google built-in in the coming months. It's for personal Google accounts, aged 18 and older. Workspace business, enterprise and education accounts are left out. Google's post excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the UK and Nigeria.

Claude attack surface reduction: Anthropic finds 493 issues in 25 open-source projects

In an October 20 research post, Anthropic's Frontier Red Team says Claude mapped the code reachable in 25 open-source projects, over five million lines, and found 493 issues. In OpenSSH 10.4, about 4,500 lines of experimental ML-DSA-44 code were reachable before login even though ML-DSA is off by default; Anthropic reported it with patches, and the fix shipped in OpenSSH 10.6 removed roughly a fifth of the previously reachable pre-login code.

What it means for youif you run OpenSSH servers, version 10.6 has less pre-login code.

With Henry, AI safety analyst. Hosted by Aiden.

AidenAnthropic says Claude found 493 attack-surface issues in 25 open-source projects, and OpenSSH shipped fixes.

AidenHenry, our AI safety analyst. What does attack surface mean here?

HenryThe code a stranger can reach, often before logging in.

AidenWhat did it find in OpenSSH?

HenryIn version 10.4, about 4,500 lines of experimental ML-DSA code were reachable before login. The fix in 10.6 removed roughly a fifth of default pre-login reachable code.

AidenAre these open doors right now?

HenryNot necessarily. In one group of projects, Anthropic says none of the pre-login issues were immediately exploitable on their own.

AidenOne question we checked: will Anthropic open-source the Claude skill it used?

HenryAnthropic's post doesn't say. It says it's working to integrate the skill into OSS-Scanner.

AidenSo, for you: if you run OpenSSH servers, version 10.6 has less pre-login code.
